This net-zero energy custom home in Steamboat, Colorado features solid wood timbers and custom wood box beams from Wood Source.

Slopeside showcases how custom mountain homes can be both beautiful and sustainable.

Responsible material sourcing was integral to the project. Natural wood products are featured throughout the interior and exterior, including custom Douglas fir timbers and wood box beams from Wood Source. Wood materials contribute to the mountain aesthetic of the home while acting as a natural carbon store.

Beyond the use of natural materials, Slopeside has cutting-edge environmental features such as a solar-powered all-electric power system. The result is a visually stunning net-zero energy home surrounded by the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

Wood Source hand-hewn Douglas fir timbers are featured throughout the interior and exterior of the project. These timbers were sourced directly from Pacific Northwest sawmills, custom-cut to meet design specifications, then textured and finished by hand in Colorado.

Custom Douglas fir timbers add natural beauty and structural support to any project. 

Since Slopeside is perched on a steep mountainside, steel framing was required to ensure the structural integrity of the project.

In order to maintain the natural aesthetic of the home, designers incorporated wood box beams from Wood Source. These box beams wrap around the steel framing to give the appearance of solid timbers. Box beams for this project were custom-made in Colorado and finished in dark brown color to match the Douglas fir timbers.

Box beams are a cost-effective natural wood solution for decorative applications.
