Learn how Wood Source became a leading supplier of natural wood materials in the Rocky Mountain Region.

Rather than stocking inventory, Patrick Lumber operated as a middleman, connecting Pacific Northwest lumber producers with customers across the United States.

With the onset of the World Wars, the U.S. entered a long period of growth fueled by the domestic war effort. Patrick Lumber benefitted from high demand for lumber, and the company quickly became a national supplier.

Beginning in the 1970s, Patrick Lumber expanded to international markets, initially focusing on Europe and Australia. Exports still make up a significant portion of Patrick Lumber sales today.

Wood Source was founded as a subsidiary of Patrick Lumber to serve the booming Rocky Mountain market. Founders Cris Schureman and Martin Schwab leaned on existing relationships with Patrick Lumber to bring their venture to life.

Rather than operating as a wholesale lumberyard, Wood Source was established to supply finished wood products for high-end custom home builders in mountain areas.

By leveraging key relationships through Patrick Lumber, Wood Source quickly gained traction in the Rocky Mountain market. Buying directly from the forest floor through Pacific Northwest sawmills gave Wood Source a strategic advantage over local competitors.

Our first location was a small yard in Golden, Colorado. We moved to Wynkoop Street in 2003, then again to our current Thornton location in 2007.

Patrick Lumber celebrated a century in business and was inducted into the World Forestry Center Hall of Fame.

Our parent company remains a world leader in the manufacturing of niche high-grade wood products. Patrick Lumber’s people-first approach continues to define the way we do business.

After 16 years in business, Wood Source introduced the WiseWood Collection, our first set of standard prefinished wood siding products. 

WiseWood was the result of learning how wood siding performs in harsh mountain environments. Each product was designed to offer repeatable textures and colors while embracing the natural variation of real wood siding. 

WiseWood inspired the modern Wood Source Collection, and WiseWood products are still specified in mountain projects today.

To further expand product offerings, Wood Source became the official Lunawood distributor for the Rocky Mountain Region.

Lunawood is thermally modified and performs exceptionally well in harsh climates. This partnership reflects the Wood Source commitment to providing sustainable and innovative wood products for mountain projects.

Soon after celebrating 25 years in business, Wood Source released the Wood Source Collection of signature prefinished wood siding products.
